Continuing his quest to prove his dead Navy buddy, Lt Dan Cook, innocent of cocaine charges, Magnum begins his own investigation of the Hawaiian cocaine trade. With the help of TC, Rick, and Dan’s sister, he delves more and more deeply into the seamy underworld of smuggling. Finally he confronts a crime lord who both he and Dan had known from their previous tours of duty in Vietnam. Magnum has to deal with this crime boss if he is to establish Dan’s innocence.

Higgins’ new security: Unbeknownst to Magnum, Higgins installed a new alarm system that activates when the gate lock is picked. This forces Magnum to figure out the security combination before a siren sounds and the car’s fuel pump is locked.
The most famous piece of lock-picking trivia comes from the series’ first episode, “Don’t Eat the Snow in Hawaii.” While trying to “steal” Robin Masters’ Ferrari, Magnum is distracted by Higgins’ Doberman pinschers, Zeus and Apollo, and narrates a crucial mantra to himself:
